Mercy's Surgery Went Well!

The Last Feeding Tube Meal!

Going In

Recovery

She is in ICU right now. We came in to find a smiling girl this morning. Yesterday was a long day.
It started at 9:15 PM on Sunday to start the colon prep. By 3AM still nothing! We told her she had to go or they would cancel surgery. So we put her table in the bathroom with a pillow on it so she could just sit there and lay her head down. Wha la. She was clean by 5AM! The intern was getting a little nervous as it was her neck on the line if they had to cancel!
They wheeled her down to pre-op by 7AM and we met the team of about 20 it seemed that would be working on her (this is a teaching hospital). They wheeled her in by 7:30AM and the operative notes say anaesthesia started at 7:46AM. We went to the waiting room and the nurse called every hour or so with basic info that said they were progressing. Dr. Wesson came out at 2PM and said everything was going well and they had the piece of colon out as well as her esophagus which was embedded into everything due to scar tissue and it was one complete mass. They were taking a little break and would join everything together after their little break. The nurse called a few more times and we decided at 4PM to get a little bite to eat since we didn't know when we would have another chance. Dr. Brandt called and said they were all done about 5PM. We ran back to the waiting area where she and Dr. Wesson were and she explained everything went as well as could be expected. They were very pleased with the outcome.
They called us in about 30 minutes later to recovery where she was pretty out of it. Operative notes say anaesthesia ended at 5:45 PM, She was under for 10 hours! She woke up for a little while reaching for us to hold her hand. Then she motioned for a pen to write something. This was her note to us:

And then fell back to sleep.

We decided to go back to the camper as she had one on one nurse care in ICU and we didn't get much sleep the night before. Since Joy will be coming in tomorrow for her poop prep we figured it would be good to get a full night. They have a little waiting area with recliners and it was full of people when we left. As we came in this morning there were several sawing the roof away! We were glad we went to the camper!
She was a smiley girl this morning and in no pain. Dr Toyin (that's her first name as I can't say her last) gave her an epidural that will be in for a few days. She is a wonderful caring lady! Mercy may get moved to the floor tonight but will wait to see what Dr Brandt says today.
The church family we spoke about here in Houston have take over the care of Joy and Grace and can not tell you a blessing that has been.
Matt and Lisa Bullen and their children have been amazing. They live Christ in action, they walk their talk! We are so blessed to see how the Lord had all this planned too! We weren't sure how it was all going to work out with this aspect of Mercy in, Joy not in yet and Grace in limbo. But they have taken over and it is such a relief.
We are Praising His Name for all His blessings!
